Times change but some clothing must-haves–like jeans, blazers and a respectable collection of T-shirts–remain hallmarks of fashion. T-shirts are ideal garments because they’re trendy, but you can combine them with every fad on the planet so the potential for stocking a variety of styles is never ending. Here’s a bonus: Even in hard times, T-shirts are eminently affordable for all sizes of pocketbooks.

Have you ever seen a t-shirt at the store with a fun design and thought, “I could make that?” Here is a way to create great-looking t-shirts at home without patterns. With a trip to the fabric store, a little bit of patience and some crafting know-how, you’ll be making your own t-shirt appliqués in no time.

Step 1

Place 1/2 yard of jersey fabric flat on work table. Fold right sides together lengthwise. Measure an 8 inch square on fabric and cut. You now have two pieces of 8 inch square material.

Step 2

Keeping right sides of fabric together, use dressmaking pins to hold the two pillow pieces in place, and machine or hand stitch a hem around three sides. Leave top unstitched. Turn pillow square inside out.

Step 3

Lay contrasting jersey fabric flat on work table. Cut an 8″ by 4″ piece of fabric. Use a piece of cardboard to draw fish shape (as pictured). Lay cardboard on top of remaining fabric and cut around edges, leaving about 1/4 inch.

Step 4

Attach the 8 by 4″ piece of contrasting fabric onto the back of the pillow square, on the right side, either by hand or machine. Sew the piece of grey lace on the bottom, for a hem.You should have a “flap” that folds down over front of pillow, as pictured.

Step 5

Position cut-out appliqué on front of pillow, and use dressmaking pin to hold in place. Machine or hand stitch appliqué into place. Use a needle and thread to sew coin charm or button into place for eye.

Step 6

Stuff pillow loosely with poly-fill fibre. Use dressmaking pins to seal the top edge, and either hand or machine stitch closed. Pillow is done!

It amazes me how much we all read as we make our way through fertility challenges. At the beginning I read masses of information about how to optimize chances of conception. And then I read masses about reproductive technologies and what to expect. I even went offline (gasp!) and got books from the local library. And then I just stopped. I figured I’d consumed as much information as I could and I just had to think about something besides fertility for awhile.

Alcohol alters estrogens levels which could interfere with egg implantation. We all know the stories of people who only did the deed that led to the pregnancy because they were imbibing, and we are also aware of the staggering number of unplanned pregnancies. It is easy to point to these examples and say that alcohol just cannot have much of an impact. The upsetting fact is, though, that if you are struggling with infertility it is pretty obvious that you are probably not going to be one of those people. An “oops” is not going to happen to most people who are seeking fertility treatments or those who have been unsuccessful in efforts to conceive.

I don’t think that it is necessary to be a teetotaller if you enjoy an occasional glass of wine or a beer with friends. In fact, I think maintaining some semblance of normality can help reduce stress and can make the process of dealing with infertility seem somewhat less life altering. I do, however, think that cutting back on alcohol consumption is an easy fix and worth a shot. Not drinking may not have any effect at all, but it is pretty empowering to know that you gave it your very best effort and research seems to be showing that a good way to boost fertility is to limit alcohol intake. Do the best for your health, Health.Infoniac.com give you latest health news, read about newest health products and useful health tips that one can find on the blog.
